Audio Options

Channels

Sets the number of channels for the exported audio file. There are three options

  • Mono: single channel
  • Stereo: stereo pair with left and right channels - this is the default setting even if you only have mono tracks for exporting
  • Custom mapping: use this to export multi-channel (surround sound) files or to make customized assignments between Audacity tracks and the channels in the exported file.

Sample Rate

Sets the sample rate for the exported file. Default setting is 44100 Hz, which is CD quality.

Quality

Four options are available:

  • Low Quality (fast)
  • Normal Quality - default
  • High Quality (slow)
  • Very High Quality (slowest)

Bit Depth

Three options are available for bit depth:

  • 16 bit - default
  • 24 bit
  • 32 bit float

Hybrid mode

Hybrid mode provides all the advantages of lossless compression with an additional bonus. Instead of creating a single file, this mode creates both a relatively small, high-quality lossy file that can be used all by itself, and a "correction" file that (when combined with the lossy file) provides full lossless restoration. This means never having to choose between lossless and lossy compression.

Bit Rate

This is only available when Hybrid Mode is selected.

There are options from 2.2 bps to 8.0 bps. The default is 4.0 bps.
